"In this piece, the hammock supports a replica of the Alvorada Palace columns, in Brasilia. The Presidency office was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated in 1958. Its white marble columns went beyond their structural function and became a symbol of the Brazilian capital. Appropriated by people, they became part of collective imagination as representing progress and modernity and are used for decorating house and store façades all over the country. Therefore, we can find the confluence between industrial and artisanal, contemporary and ancestor traditions, in a country which for many will “eternally lie in a splendid cradle” (reference to Brazil’s National Anthem)."
